Treaty #1 This treaty was signed by the South-Eastern tribes of Manitoba and members of the Canadian Government. In exchange for giving up their land rights, the First Nations received reserve lands, money, schools, farming assistance, etc. The First Nations people had to promise to maintain law and order and not possess liquor on the reserves. More promises and regulations were then added with the future numbered treaties. Treaty #1 was signed on August 3rd, 1871 at Lower Fort Garry.
